Zhou Fengsuo, co-founder and current chairman of Humane China, leader of the Beijing student movement in 1989. In 1988, the only direct election for the Student Union of Tsinghua University in Beijing was organized. In 1989, on behalf of Tsinghua University, he became a member of the Standing Committee of the Beijing High-Tech League and organized a rally to protest. After the June 4th Massacre, he was listed as the fifth most wanted for 21 people and was imprisoned for one year. He moved to the United States in 1995 and graduated from the University of Chicago Business School in 1998. Li Peng was prosecuted in New York for the June 4 crimes in 2000. From 2001 to 2010, he served as the director and president of China Democracy Education Foundation. In 2014, he entered Beijing alone to Tiananmen Square to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Tiananmen Square, and was arrested and repatriated to the United States. In the same year, he went to Hong Kong to support during the Umbrella Movement in Hong Kong.

Humane China was founded in 2005 and has been since then. Humane China is committed to helping Chinese prisoners of conscience, promoting China's democracy, freedom and legal system, and building a civil society. Humane China fully volunteers and provides relief to hundreds of prisoners of conscience in China each year, including Tiananmen mothers, political opposition parties, journalists, writers, lawyers, Christians, labor women's rights and other social sectors. After the Hong Kong pro-democracy movement broke out, Humane China has been actively committed to providing humanitarian aid to Hong Kong protesters.
